Extended State of Emergency in Morona Santiago

The Government of Ecuador declared a 30-day state of emergency for the province of Morona Santiago on December 14, 2016. On January 12, the government extended the state of emergency for an additional 30 days. We recommend U.S. citizens avoid unnecessary travel to this province until the state of emergency is lifted.
As a reminder, demonstrations and other potentially violent acts can occur without advance notice. Review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates. Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.
