State of Emergency in Morona Santiago
December 23, 2016

The Government of Ecuador declared a state of emergency for the province of Morona Santiago on December 14, 2016.  We recommend U.S. citizens avoid unnecessary travel to this province until the state of emergency is lifted.

Demonstrations and other potentially violent acts have occurred without advance notice, caused disruptions, and have the capacity to spread to other parts of the country with short notice.  Review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates.  Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.
