Location: El Arbolito Park and Presidential Palace, Quito
Event: Political demonstrations are expected to take place on October 20, 2021, in support of the current Ecuadorian government. The demonstrations will start at El Arbolito Park in Quito, continue down Avenida 10 de Augusto, and finish at the Presidential Palace. The duration and size of the expected demonstrations is unknown. Some past demonstrations have turned violent and security forces have responded with crowd dispersal agents to maintain public order.
During this time, please take the following actions:
- Avoid crowds.
- Avoid demonstration areas.
- Monitor local media for updates on road closures.
- Exercise caution if transiting through affected areas.
- Consider alternate routes.
- Maintain increased vigilance.
- U.S. citizens should continue to comply with all local movement restrictions.
