Ecuador Responds to COVID-19 Omicron Variant with Updated Entry Requirements

Event: Ecuador’s national Emergency Operations Committee (national COE) resolved November 29 to update international entry requirements in response to the COVID-19 Omicron variant. Effective December 1, all travelers ages 16 and older must present the following when entering Ecuador:

  • A negative RT-PCR test taken a maximum of 72 hours prior to travel, counting from the time the sample was taken, AND
  • A vaccination card showing the traveler received a complete series of the COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to travel, AND
  • A declaration of traveler health (the declaration is available on the Ministry of Public Health website).

Travelers between ages 2 and 15 do not require a vaccination card, but must present:

  • A negative RT-PCR test taken a maximum of 72 hours prior to travel, counting from the time the sample was taken, AND
  • A declaration of traveler health (the declaration is available on the Ministry of Public Health website).

The national COE further resolved to prohibit entry of travelers whose “point of origin, stopover, or transit” is: South Africa, Botswana, Egypt, Mozambique, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, and Namibia.
