Location: Quito
Event: President Lasso issued a decree this morning dissolving the National Assembly and initiating a process that will lead to snap elections for both the National Assembly and the presidency within the next few months. Some groups previously threatened to stage demonstrations in connection with the political situation. Events are developing rapidly and demonstrations could arise with little or no advance notice. Though demonstrations could happen anywhere, locations around government buildings could be especially affected. There is an increased police presence in the downtown area of Quito. You may encounter road closures and other traffic disruptions when traveling in affected areas.
During this time, please take the following actions:
- Avoid crowds.
- Avoid demonstrations.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Maintain increased vigilance.
