Weather Alert

Event: Ecuador’s National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology issued an alert March 8 advising residents that Tropical Cyclone Yaku is causing intense rains and electrical storms in central and southern Ecuador, as well as high waves around the Galapagos Islands and coastal areas. Heavy rainfall can result in flooding and washed-out roads, in addition to other adverse effects. Officials expect Tropical Cyclone Yaku to continue to impact the affected regions through at least March 11.
During this time, please take the following actions:
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Exercise caution if transiting through areas affected by weather.
- Review Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and NOAA websites for tips on preparing for hurricanes.
- Enroll in Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Embassy alerts.
