The process of how to apply is very simple, it only requires to follow these simple steps below and it can be done by any applicant, it does not require assistance from a 3rd party.
STEP 1: COMPLETE THE DS-160 ONLINE APPLICATION
Fill out the online DS-160 (Non-immigrant Visa Application) Form at the Department of State website and print the “Confirmation Page”. This is a page that contains a barcode on the top right corner of the page.
Note: If your DS-160 does not provide complete and accurate information, your application will not be accepted. You will be required to update or correct your DS-160 and return to the Embassy or Consulate at a later time to finish the application process.
STEP 2: SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT AND PAY THE APPLICATION FEE
Schedule an interview appointment at the Global Support Services (GSS) website.
When you schedule your appointment, you will:
- Provide the confirmation number from your DS-160 application (from Step 1).
- Make an initial determination on your eligibility for a waiver of interview, and schedule your appointment at the Embassy or Consulate.
- Select the DHL office where you would like your passport and/or visa delivered (if approved).
- Pay the application fee.
Ecuador has two locations where you can apply for a visa – the Embassy in Quito and the Consulate in Guayaquil. Please choose the location that best suits your needs regarding timing and travel. The wait time for appointments varies. If you would like to know the current wait time for an appointment, please refer to the Visa Wait Times web site.
The amount of the application fee depends on the type of visa you are applying for:
Visa Category Fee
|Tourist and other non-petition-based visas||$160.00|
|Petition-based visas (H, L, O, P, Q, and R visas)||$190.00|
STEP 3: APPEAR FOR YOUR INTERVIEW (NOT REQUIRED FOR ALL APPLICANTS)
You should arrive to the Embassy or Consulate 15 minutes prior to your appointment. Every effort will be made to ensure a minimal wait time, however unforeseen circumstances and high volume of applications make wait times unpredictable.
The documents required for the interview (forms, supporting documents, etc.) vary according to the category of visa you are requesting. All applicants should bring their valid passport and the DS-160 application form confirmation page. For detailed information about other documents please review the categories of visas section of this website. It is important that all forms are filled out completely and truthfully.
Please be aware that all visa applicants will go through security checks prior to entering the Consular Section. The following items are not permitted in the Consular Section:
- Cell phones
Only minors under 18 years old, elderly, and persons with disabilities can be accompanied.
If you come to the Embassy in Quito for an interview, you may have to wait in a line outside the building and it may be cold. We suggest bringing a light jacket to ensure your comfort.
It is important to be honest during the interview. Misleading, lying, and/or presenting false or altered documentation may result in a permanent visa ineligibility.
STEP 4: APPEAR AT LOCAL DHL OFFICE TO PICK UP PASSPORT AND/OR VISA (IF APPROVED)
If your visa is approved, your passport will remain with the Embassy or Consulate so that the visa can be printed. The passport and visa will be returned via DHL courier in approximately 10 working days from the date of the interview.
For information about the process or delivery of your visa, please visit the Global Support Services (GSS) website.
