Visa Waiver Program

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) allows nationals of certain designated countries to travel to the United States for tourism or business without a visa. However, there are some restrictions. A list of countries eligible to participate is found on the VWP website.

All nationals from visa waiver countries intending to travel to the United States temporarily for tourism or business under the VWP must receive a travel electronic authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) system before boarding an aircraft or a vessel with the United States as a destination. ESTA will determine, almost immediately in many cases, if an individual is eligible for VWP travel, and if such travel poses any law enforcement or security risks. To facilitate the authorization process, DHS recommends that ESTA applications be submitted as soon as an applicant begins planning U.S.-bound travel, and not less than 72 hours prior to travel. For more information about the VWP, ESTA and specific eligibility requirements please visit the VWP website.
